Overview

(BACK)
Welcome to tim-kirby.com. I'm an experienced writer and copy editor, always on the lookout for new work, large or small.

I work with all types and styles of writing: commercial, public sector, websites, plain English, scientific / technical, etc. in UK and US English.

I pride myself in producing high quality work quickly in the right style for your readers, however challenging the job. I meet deadlines and offer value for money, confidentiality and security.

See the Examples page for a few samples of my work. If you are seriously considering commissioning me, I would be happy to edit a short sample of your own text, or to provide more specific examples of my writing that are relevant to what you want.

Writing: I'm happy to apply my skills to any writing work. I've written web copy, reports, letters, minutes of meetings, leaflets, books, keynote speeches, scripts, fiction, scientific papers, user instructions... more

Editing: I can brush up a document with light-touch copy editing to sort out any awkward sentences and ensure consistency of style. Or I can carry out root-and-branch developmental editing if you need it. I've edited well over a million words now, about half of it technical or scientific and half in easy-to-read English for a general readership... more

Editing / proofreading translations: I'm experienced in turning literal translations into natural-sounding English... more

About me: I've worked in small and large companies, university research, and the civil service for ten years (by the end heading a team of 35 staff). I have a degree in sciences, a PhD in physiology, and broad knowledge of a number of subject areas including health and healthcare. I learn quickly and love a challenge. I now work as an author and freelance writer and editor in Cardiff, UK... more

No job too big, too small or too technical! Let me give you a quote.
